    Button w/stamped letters

I have found a lot of colonial buttons, but never one with letters stamped into it. I have tried to decipher what those letters are and cannot. I tried to take the best close-up pictures I could. The button is covered in a nice green patina and is one of the thinnest I have found.

    Please, help!

I was searching desperately for a G or a W! The letters are stamped to the left of the button (not centered). If you enlarge the pictures it helps. I'm trying to find a way to get a better picture. I tried a scan and it didn't work.
The first line says P R O C or P A O C. The second line has a period before the last letter!?
Was it common for buttons to be stamped with letters?

    Thank you for your reply.

Due to it's extreme thinness I was thinking the same thing yesterday. And, there is no shank or remains of a shank once there.

What size is it? Could it be a seal from a medicine bottle?

It is 1" across. I don't know what antique seals on medicine bottles looked like, but that could be a possibility. Thank you for the information!

I agree, probably not a button. I'll mark this one as solved and keep searching for clues.

    Thank you!
