    This item measures 1 1/4 inches across. Brass. What is it?

    I can tell you that it is pre-1926. That year Circle Pleating Outfit Co changed it's name to Circle Pleating Machinery. They made (wonder of wonders) pleating machinery. Pleated clothing was very much in fashion inthe 1920's.

    I found a couple of ads for home businesses to do "pleating" in 1920's newspapers. They were selling "pleating outfits" but there was no indication of what they looked like or how they worked.

    Your piece looks like a name plate that had a rivet going through it.

    He then explained to me that it was commonly believed that on a certain night of the year…
