OK Im out.
The attachment is very unusual and the more pics the easier it is to visualize this thing. It almost looks like a loop soldered on to one side of a medallion. Or maybe its soldered on both sides. Or maybe its cast all in one piece. I guess we will never know. You may be right but members are often surprised what we can obtain from additional pics very often something can be seen in a pic that cannot be seen in hand. I thought we were making progress but could use a little more help. I shouldnt have to explain all this. Please Read Before Posting Items in "What Is It?"

How about a watch fob from a secret fraternal organization - like the Sphinx at Dartmouth which started in 1886?
Without knowledge of exactly what the letters at the bottom are, I've done all I can.

Is there a French connection?
Without more pics, front back and from different angles, I have done all I can do. Its a shame because I thought we were making progress and I wanted to learn about this interesting piece..

No French connection that I know of. But "du jour" has been part of the English vernacular for at least the last 100 years, so I was discounting the French connection.
It is an interesting piece. Wish we could get some additional input from the OP.

Sometimes we need a little help..
At this point I think its safe to say its not related to the workers at the Harvesting Machine Co. in Chicago.
CLUES
1- 2 dates (one is 1886)
2- Sphinx, sarcophagus or Arab
3- French words
4- the answer is a question
5- initials on bottom
6- size and composition unknown
7- holes with unknown purpose.
8- probably found in PA.

The entire medal may be French.

Dont worry Jim but I will try to explain.
If you really want to see this item solved, you need to post pictures of both front and back and side would be cool too. I dont care if both sides are the same. We are requesting front AND back. Its standard procedure. I am not picking on you. Also something for size would help. Also the compostion. Is it brass or pot metal? Where did you find it?
We are trying to read the words and there may be one single letter that reveals itself by showing the backside. Or a pic from a different angle or different lighting. To keep it simple we need pic of front and back please thank you. The pic in your last relpy didnt post.
Additional pics may or may not help but let us be the one to make the decision. If you want the thread to die, dont post anymore pics. Thanks.
I posted instructions before. I dont know whats hard to understand. Please Read Before Posting Items in "What Is It?"

The color green usually signifies brass but it almost looks like torquise paint on the low spots.

I think we can solve this item if you keep the members interested. Can you tell if its brass or pot metal? Was it painted?
