    1916 Standing Liberty? No date...

While taking my dog on a walk about a month ago, I came across a pile of things with a big FREE sign above them. A worn canvas and leather shoulder bag caught my eye (I thought it would be perfect for bringing metal detecting) and I picked it up. Well, I just took it out today for the first time and while putting my gear into it, I found a standing liberty quarter in one of the pockets! I'm no expert, and it's so worn I can't see any date. So, are there any coin collectors out there that might be able to help me out? Of course it's very unlikely, but I'm hoping it's a 1916. It was found in San Francisco after all...

    It's a type 2 so it can't be a 1916.

Stars under the eagle automatically eliminate it from being a 1916.

Good find!! SLQ's were some of the most beautiful coins made, but were soft and didn't wear well. Tony

They were no softer than any other 90% silver coin. They just didn't have enough relief at the date to keep it from being the first thing to wear. The later years were a bit better than the early dates but that area was still a problem spot. The buffalo nickel has the same problem.
