    Confused in Cleveland

Hoping someone can help id these. Found these two items in a glass jar in a back yard in the Old Brooklyn section of Cleveland Ohio. I believe these houses must have been built on a landfill from the amount of trash and bottles I’ve been finding. They’re heavy, and might be lead and both sides of the wide parts are divided in 5/16” sections.
I found them with my equinox. Reading was 22

Do the sections break off? I mean are they made to break off?

Believe it or not... and I am not sure about my theory... but... I think you may have just found an antique battery.

Good ID AARC... I've never seen a battery like that before. Then again I can't say I've ever looked into the evolution of the battery before. I guess that'll be this mornings topic.

Welcome bigd, wonderful find! What AARC said spot on. The earliest home radios came out before rural electrification took place. They were made to power off of a 6V DC source. The aray shown by AARC represents this. Just like today 1.5V per jar. They were completely rebuildable. You could recharge them with your automobile or change the acid in them. You could get sulfuric acid from the pharmacy (oil of vitriol) and some may have been able to use vinegar.
They've found batteries in Egyptian pyramids and even one on the Merrimac (Virginia).

    Best wishes
