    Brass/Bronze cast object

took a walk through the state land yesterday afternoon and stumbled upon a old home site in the woods near a intersection of a old road which had been closed off around the 1920's from my best guess of plat map research. wandered around the small open area in the woods and found 3 deteriorated stone foundations + a stone lined well and found this laying atop of the earth nearest to what im assuming was a outbuilding of sorts. plat map showed a home site around 1912 but vanished from the maps from there on, as a general time frame of what era this originated from.

only wordage on it is Bremer. the part in the center opening has a tapped thread on it with a washer and nut & the other end has 4 "fins' for a lack of better words, but the assembly moves up and down independently of the rest of the casting. the main casting (portion that has bremer stamped on it has no threads or anything inside the bottom circular opening. it appears to be about the right size for a "universal" replacement wooden shovel handle to fit into it (as a general estimate of diameter).

It was fairly clean when i found it so i immediately knew it wasn't iron as had a green appearance to it. i soaked it in some hot vinegar and it cleaned up pretty well otherwise. vinegar turned green quickly after soaking so im assuming theres copper involved here in this casting.

Researching Bremer i could only come up with a German auto manufacturer around 1900's which wouldnt make sense around here as well as the location and also cookware.

Anyone have any ideas? photo is taken with object sitting on standard 8.5x11 printer paper.

Randy got it. Check valve, on a well usually called a foot valve. Could probably made to work again.
