I’ve had a site deep in the county park woods on my scout list for a couple years now. It is what I would categorize as a C or D site. A couple of the mid 1800’s maps have a homestead listed, but it shows in the 1900’s maps as coal strip mined. The site is a 1.5 mile trail hike, then .5 mile off the trail to get to it. Basically a pretty big gamble for a site that may have been buried 50’ down by the mining companies 100 years ago.

I finally decided to take the risk and I had a 4-5 hour window of time open last weekend. First signal was a very nice spun back tombac button. I knew the gamble had paid off. Here are the results of 5 hours digging. I will be back!

What a crazy good, productive site! I'm surprised that you didn't find any silver. It's got to be out there. Congrats on a fantastic day of digging!
Thank you Silvermonkey for the positive mojo. Just got back from a follow up hunt and your foreshadowing paid off!
