Wow!! Finding something that old must be an amazing feeling! Congrats on the find. Early pilgrim stuff there. Any idea if British or Dutch or French?

Very nice to get the iron pin as well, the word 'spectacle' is not normally used the describe these types. They are thought to be Spur Buckles.

Shame on you Rick D, Not to shame you for your knowledge but the Virginia Colony was exclusive to a fault. We were protestant, we could only present ourselves as British citizens ( regardless of where, in Europe we'd come from, we would present ourselves as faithful to the Church Of England, i.e. Episcopalians, and under penalty of death we would not practice Catholicism on American soil! I'm not exaggerating, this is the contract my ancestors had to swear to in order to leave the port of Rotterdam for England and the "New World"

Was digging an old homestead near a tributary in southeast VA. I was fortunate enough to save this extremely old relic. Its a double loop trapezoidal spectacle buckle and dates 1620s to 1680s. About as old as it gets here!! Very excited to have dug this. Only 3 inches down.

really nice find! I hope to find one of those some day! Always amazing that the tongue is still intact!
