I was able to get out the past two days to detect at two different early sites. The first site was in winter wheat so I was only able to detect a part of the field where they had recently staged some logging trucks but it turned out that that part of the field was in close proximity to an old house site. I was able to pull some early and cool looking buckle pieces as well as an early stud chape part of a buckle which is my first.
Today I hit an old site and was able to pull a whole trapezoidal buckle, a blowhole buckle and my first cob for the year!! I was beginning to think I was going to get skunked since I only a month or so of digging left. The cob has been walked over many times but I guess my coil was looking out for me and decided to lead me to it. It's a 1656 Potosi mint 1R.

Thanks for looking!!

Joey, the design on that buckle frag is just awesome. Never seen one with a design that cool. Oh and SWEET cob! Hopefully one day I'll luck out and get my coil over some old hammered silver like that. Ha

Thanks Brad. I've looked all over for another example of that buckle but no luck.

I live in Hanover but I travel where my research takes me. If you need any research help just shoot me a PM.
Congrats on the banner too joey.I pretty much just hunt locally but I might spread my wings a little one of these days, lol.I usually just look at old maps of the area for house sites and stuff, then birds eye view the area on google I am looking into.then I just go and sniff the place out that I am looking for if it isn't overgrown or covered with concrete. My biggest problem is the permissions.Again congrats, way to go man:icon_thumright:

Pretty sweet finds and a terrific hunt!!!

I'm curious, could you tell me more about the Trapezoidal buckle? That style of buckle was used for? It dates to? I ask because last year I find a similar styled buckle and other than assuming it was "Colonial" I did not have an idea on the age of it. I've attached a couple pictures of mine for reference including one near some coins for size reference. Thanks!

I'm not sure about your buckle but if you google netmarshall buckle that should take you to a good reference with drawings to match yours up to. Let us know what you find out!
