1700's Wax Seal Stamp

I went back to the soccer field where I dug all the coppers a few weeks back. I had hit it hard over the last few outings, but I missed a few goodies. This time I dug a bunch of tombac buttons, a "V" nickel which is the only modern coin I have dug, and finally the wax seal, which was a nice surprise.

I was surprised that wood was used for the seal. I would have thought ivory or bone would have been better suited for the job. It's too bad it broke off. I would love to have known what the seal was. The wood seems to be in amazing shape. I guess the brass protected it over the last 200 years!
