I didn't find this with my metal detector, but a dealer in need of a sale sold it to me for $200, which I think was a good deal. It's a "fugio" cent, the very first coin issued under the authority of the United States. Ben Franklin was credited with the design, so sometimes they're called Franklin cents. It says "United States" around the "we are one" on the front, and the back says "mind your business", which I think is very clever. Neat huh!

Nice find-- "fugio"- literally means "time flies" coined mostly in New Haven, Ct. probably from the copper bands of powder kegs. From the picture its hard to tell which variety-probably worth in VG about $475 or more.
Good buy I'd say.
Congrats

I had a dug one last year (I didn't dig it) but it was a couple grades lower than yours. I got about $90 for it on ebay.

It's surprising but people are actually digging these today.

Didn't mean to imply this particular one was worth $475 or higher. It s in AG or less condition, which still I would think would be worth more than $200. Ultimately now days Ebay seems to set the price!!
