after looking at vinos recent large cent score, I thought I had a similar one, I found out mine is approximately 1796, and is worth a decent buck in this condition, can any coin guys confirm?? Its pretty toasty and cant get a date
I'm by no means an expert but I will give you my 1 cents worth opinion on old dug copper coins........they are not worth so much to a "serious" coin collector and the prices you see listed in the books or on line are for un dug coins and not "environmentally damaged" as all copper coins this old are. Will someone pay $25 to $50 for yours to fill a set (not knowing the exact date)? Yeah maybe. The image below gives you an idea on what condition people are looking for and the prices that a posted. The G4 grade in this picture would bring the $200 to $1500, if you knew what date you had and if it was un dug. Hope this helps?
thanks for the replies guys, that's ok, I just like having it!, id have a tough time selling any of my old coins unless they were worth over a grand, then I might let one go a little easier
I can't see any date on it and it could be any date up to 1807. Draped bust LC's are always fun to find, but rarely worth much because of the condition. I found an 1804 last year that has a clear date, but not much else. Look up the value of an 1804 and you might be surprised. They start off in the Redbook at about $700 in the lowest grade. I don't think I'd ever get that for mine even though it has a clear date.
