Hey guys,

After the overwhelming response to my first post I decided re-post with the new identification. Having put the large cent under a magnifier glass, sanity checked it with my wife...it definitely says 1793!!! Here's a few more pics.

Thanks for looking!

Can you read what is stamped on the edge of the coin? Also, how thick is the coin? Compare it to your other LC. Are they the same thickness?

I'm seeing a 1795 date, but my eyes aren't perfect. I believe the 1795 LC's are thinner than the 1793 LC's.

Yeah sometimes how you title/present your post makes all the difference . Congratulations Amigo- if 1793 that is BANNER all the way !
It is a much better looking coin in these latest pics - though I'd love to be able to make out the 3 - I'm giving you the vote.

FreeBirdTime,

The edge says "ONE HUNDRED" and as far as thickness it is slightly thicker than my 1817. I am soaking it in olive oil to help lightly clean it, but when placed at an angle under the light I can definitely make out 1793.

Upon re reading the design features (Red book U.S. Coins) The 1793 would have to display "beaded borders " on both the
obverse and the reverse - looking at the reverse pic of your piece I think I'm seeing "denticles" (teeth) not beads .
unfortunately I think you have something other than 1793. (wish I was wrong about this )

(if you look at the reverse pic near the U in United - you can more clearly see what I'm referring to )

Argentium,

Thanks for the feedback, I will definitely post more pictures after a day in the oil. I do have to agree with you- teeth not beads on the rim would put it in the 1794-1796 range. Still glad I got to share it with you guys!

Hey that is a fantastic find! And thank you for not get defensive when people try to help you get a positive id. Lots of people are super sensitive and feel like they're being attacked when someone simply points something out that's fact. You just made an incredible find in pretty darned good shape. Go out and find that chain cent that's hiding there
