Hi all, been a while since I posted anything here. With work and family time it does get hard to get out. Anyway, on Saturday I went with my two hunting pals "Walk the Dog" and "Edot". While searching an open field I recovered my oldest US Coin. A 1796 Capped Cent. It was actually my first time out with my new detector. While the coin is in poor shape, It made for a nice day. I also dug this old Buckle. I think it might be colonial. If anyone knows more about it, please chime in. Thanks and HH

Great finds! Not a capped bust, but a draped bust. A close loot at your coins shows why cleaning is sometimes a bad idea. You have some good detail and a strong date. If you were to clean that coin it would probably fall right off the surface. Nice buckle too.

Roger that buddy on the cleaning part, been down that road before. While the coin probably isn't worth much, do you think I could hit it with a polyurethane to keep the rest from flaking off ?. Or any other ideas.. Thanks

SD, Congratulations on the great saves. What did the coin and buckle read on the ATPro's VDI if you don't mind asking? Those kinds of relics rarely show up here in SW Missouri. Sub 8-)

Hi Sub T, They were in the 80's. Both signals were clear but faint. I was running in Pro Zero, Manual GB, 30 Iron Disc. Everything else wide open. They were both around 9-10". I actually bought the AT for trying some water hunts. It really surprised me on the clarity of the sounds as well as the depth that it got. Made a believer out of me.

oh man. That LC is a kind of a tough date. I'm missing the '93, '96, and '99. I'm mad! You have one I need. Great buckle too. I bet there's a lot more out in that open area behind you!

Nice open work shoe buckle frame. Those broke easily are tough to find intact. The 1796 LC has nice strong detail.

Never though of the poly. I've seen some encased in lucite. Wonder how a clear epoxy would work. Of course, try it on a worthless coin first. When you get back to 1796, LC's become a lot rarer. I did find an 1804 rarity last year. Not much left of the coin except thank God, the date.
