Hi all, I am new to this site and I must say i really enjoy it and I will become a charter member as soon as I get to a computer .
I'm also new To detecting , but I love it . I live in vt and sometimes getting permission to hunt is tricky. But today it really payed of for me and I'm hooked life , I found a large cent - draped bust copper one cent about 8 in down - probably not worth much , but I think it's totally cool
So thanks to everyone on here for the little tidbits of info I pickup here

I just like to think about how many hands that a coin passed through before becoming lost. Plus, those people are all gone also. Congrats on your find.

Large cent......uuummm. I've been detecting for 42 years now and I would love to find one. They're extremely scarce here in SoCal. Post a photo of the coin when you get a chance.

Welcome aboard David! Thanks for sharing. I like to imagine who was last person to hold anything that old.

Thanks everyone !! I I will post that , but it is in bad shape but I was able to identify ( obviously ) still just the same too cool . Went out today and found a old sleigh bell ( still works ) and it was about a foot down too, a couple of mid 40s wheats and a 1880 Indian head . Fun afternoon for me . Had a really good hit + 94 and showing 50cent and about 8 inches down , but there is a massive tree root about 6 in diameter half way down and I don't want to get people mad at me so I left it for now ( bummer ) this has been a great park so I will be wise . I made another cold call for permission today , so now I'm waiting for two calls back - fingers crossed .
David

Nice find, check if it's a large date small fraction, as that's the most valuable one of that variety. Good luck HH :icon_thumright:

Hey broken knee ,
Thanks on the find , but I don't know what you mean by small fraction large date? It says one cent on back and the date in Front looks normal size to me( I'm new to this so sorry ) but mostly deteriorated .
