Here's the button I found Saturday after I cleaned it. I'm glad alot of the detail was still there. The soil in Central Virginia is not kind to some relic. Does anybody know of a process (maybe olive oil )that will give it shine or is this something that shouldn't be attempted.

nice button. State archaeologist Mike Barber does not believe VA soil is tough on relics :laughing7:. the stuff I found in VA was toasted due to the rough ground action. the last eagle cuff button I dug looked like it was bathed in acid and is full of holes. I would personally leave your button as is and not soak it. Congrats on finding a fairly scare button!

Thanks for the advice on leaving it as is.I just want to do whats right. This is my oldest button to date.
