Dug this large cent this morning, sort of, I was carefully digging out a beautiful stoneware jar, which of course was cracked and fell apart as usual, I removed the broken pieces one by one and this large cent fell out, looks like it was used for a button?

Definitely not a button. I don't think it was a bracelet either. I think it was made into a toy called a whizzer.

I know a little extreme but when you hike out 2 miles or more to the dig site, ya gotta be a little prepared.

What is a whizzer? Can someone explain?
A whizzer or whirligig, also known as a buzz disc, buzzer, is a simple toy consisting of a flat disc with two central holes. When a string is threaded through the holes, twisted, then pulled taut, the disc spins and hums. The whizzer/whirligig dates back thousands of years,Native American cultures used a piece of clay or bone as early as 500 BC, and lead whizzers have been recovered from medieval sites in London. They were popular in America from colonial times through the 19th century. The whizzers/whirligigs found on American archeological sites were crafted from musket balls, coins, or buttons.
