Hey, there's a whole other bunch of us out here eating the humble pie! That's an excellent find and just tell me how much you want for that outdated and apparently very reliable 1266-X!?!

Nice find. It's actually an 1834, I believe.

I believe you are probably right about the date, It's really hard to make out, but I think it is actually 34 instead of 24, thanks rhedden! Even with 1834, it would still be my oldest find! Happy Hunting!!

Here's the values at Coin Universe (www.PCGS.com). They are not as good an indicator as Coin Worlds new mag "Coin Values" which gives an accurate real time (monthly) update based on what has sold most recently, but they are ok.

Hey old gator, we find holed coins up here in Ill as well. A lot of the early settlers wore at least one band of coins inside their clothes in the event prarie highwaymen or river pirates caught them unawares. A fellow detectorist found what he thought was an entire string that included a 1790's reale and several silver and coppers that were all holed and lying together in one spot not far from Chicago.

So far my only holed coins were a Chinese cash coin and a token for a barbed wire company marked 1895 Texas State Fair. Unless you count several wheats I found at the sight of some early 20th century shooting contest. Old Abe had lots of holes in his head...

If Ordfill992 is down in Indiana, and the coin is an 1834, then that is exactly the period of migration from the Eastern areas into the northern part of Indiana, Illinois and points north of there. Shortly after Winfield Scott went after Blackhawk (1832) most of this area got it's first settlers.
