I have a question that I can not find a answer to. I am detecting an old town that I know for a fact was torn down in the mid 1870's and while metal detecting there I started finding a large number of large cents ranging in date from 1807 until 1851 and a few almost hardly circulated 1865-1866 Indian heads. Nothing newer. I also found a few civil war uniform buttons. Now one coin has me puzzled and that is a 1829 large cent coin that has the name LOVETT stamped into it on the rear and in all caps. After a little research I of course found that the Lovett family was into tokens and of course the Lovett confederate coin. Has anyone ever came across any coins like this? The coin was found in PA. Thank you. P.S. I am trying to get a good image of it and will post it if I can.

sounds like you found a counterstamped coin , they are a very interesting thing; there's such a variety to them, as many are catalogued there is probably just as many that remain unknown
