Dug this silver in a field a few days back. I think it's a 1829 small 10c. But it's just about toast. The back it gone. Put a few pics up it just hard to get a good one. Thanks for looking .....HH

Looking at the pictures, it amazes me that you could get enough detail (even in person) off the reverse to even guess at the variety, much less get a date off the obverse. Nice going.

Yeah it's a capped bust , but most interesting to me are the numerous incuse pockmarks - all over the surfaces ,both sides!
while this seems intentional , I would like to know more about the environment you found this coin in .

By "small dime" do you mean a half-dime? The Capped Bust half-dime was made from 1829-1837.
Great find!

The OP is referring to the size of the "10c" on the reverse of the coin. The 1829 dime was minted with three varieties (that I know of) of the "10c".

Guys, thanks for looking at this. This coin as Argentium put it was to me intentionalaly defaced. It came out of a field that saw lots of action in the CW, and was in a small spot that had lots of camp lead. It was about 8" deep. It has been flattened to 18.50mm. I know it was a Capped Bust, but no way to get the date as you can see. I posted it as 1828 small 10c.? to see what you guys would come up with. And we will never know the date, But as CRUSSADER said it's old silver. And I'll take that any day. Thanks, now I GOT2DIG.....HH

Beautiful coin, even if you can't date it exactly. I would love to have that problem with a capped bust coin!!
