Found this today on a quick hunt. Fist half dime and capped bust I have ever found so pretty excited about a half dime. Looks like it is in great condition despite the large scar on the backside. Don't know much about these coins but hoping it may be a rare mint error or something, lol! Very small coin and at first didn't see the shine and thought it was a cuff/flat button.

Nice find. Congratulations. That is a great way to start a new year.

Congrats on the half dime. Looks like someone was going to make a 2 and a half cent piece

Awesome finds- those tiny buggers are hard to find- Congrats!!

Gorgeous coin.... too bad the back is carved up.... but it is what it is right?

That's a really nice coin! Looks like a reel mower hit it.

Great work and welcome to the club. Hoping yours has a key date.

Thanks for the responses! The coin was probably 6-8" deep in wet weather spring area surrounded by cedar trees. I went back yesterday and found what appears to be a gardner or enfield bullet 5 feet from it. The bullet was chewed so couldn't really tell for sure but it would be awesome to know if the same soldier dropped it. Anyways that is wishful thinking. I will be posting another thread with an item I found today in the same general vicinity.

That's one Sweet find!! They don't show up very often at all so finding one in any shape is Awesome!!

trapperart- You make an interesting point, wonder if that was something they would have attempted? The cut across the back looks to have occurred before it was dropped. At first I thought I got into it with the shovel.

Congrats on a great find, I hope to find one someday.
