1835 Capped Bust Half Dime!!! She's a Petite little thing but a real beauty

I went in to the woods again without my camera :( I rushed out the door for a two hour hunt before dinner to a nearby one room schoolhouse site and didn't realize til i was on site that the camera had gotten left behind. The last time i did that i missed photographing an 1837 Large cent coming out. This evening i swore if i got a solid 79 vdi reading that I'd mark it and run home for my camera.
I've pounded this site several times without even an Indian head to show for my time and i figure it must have already been detected hard. I went tonight thinking there was surely an elusive Indian head around somewhere! Well,no I.H. but this little sweetheart makes up for the times I've been skunked here. The Indian head in the first couple pics is to show how tiny this coin is.
I didn't get a picture but I'll never forget what this little piece of silver looked like laying in the spoil pile. I thought it may be a 3 cent piece til i saw that eagle!! Now it's time to really slow down and work this site over. Thanks for havin a look!! whooo hooo!!!!!!
Jerry

Jerry:

According to Coin Facts (http://coinfacts.com/half_dimes/capped_bust_half_dimes/1835_half_dime.htm) there are actually ELEVEN different varieties of the 1835 Half Dime, ranging from "Common" to "Very Scarce".

There is a grading service called SEGS, with a person named Brian Greer who specializes in Bust and Seated coinage. You may wish to contact them. The site is http://www.segsgrading.com/greer.html

Congrats on a great find, and thanks for the details on the VDI and depth!

I don't think it'd be all that important to have it slabbed...you're talking about 1/6th of the coin's value to do that. If it were me, I'd make sure it was in a nice hard plastic holder and wait to have a $500 coin slabbed.

Man, that's a beauty.

On my machine, it would've read "beep." ;D

The find of a lifetime for most of us. Definitely banner worthy. Amazing, very happy for you. I hope it turns out to be one of the scarce varieties.

That is a BEAUTY!! Congrats on a great find.

I have a heck of a time just finding barbers around here (only got one in my bag). I think I would faint if I dug up that little gem. ;D
