So I got out to a very old homesite today. I estimate it to be from the 1840-1850 era. I found a Bingham School button in great condition. I also found a silver ring with initials scratched in the bottom, "J.E.I.". I may never know who this guy was, but i will research it. It is probably sterling, but may be coin silver. The part with the hallmark is missing. It had an insignia soldered to it at one time. I found a wheat and a buffalo nickel, as well as a dated wick turner(1870) and 45-70 casing, July 1882.

Any ideas on ring's age please speak up! There is a close up at the bottom showing the shape of the insignia that might have been soldered on. Thanks, Foundinnc.

Your getting together a nice collection of those Bingham School buttons. They are nice for sure.

The nickel and penny were just some modern coins, probably lost by farmers. The penny is 1955, and 1925 buffalo.

Awesome button and other finds. I'll have to research the Bingham School.

My favorite find over the years was a personalized ring with initials scratched in.

Congrats,

Buck

Did you ever find out who the individual was that lost it? Do you still have a picture? Thanks Buck!

I dug up one and a half more today. I searched hard for the button front, but I know that it has the backmark for a block style button. The script button with the "transitional" Scovill backmark. These are viewed as Civil War period buttons.
