1858 dated Medallion/With image of writing instrument

Any thoughts on this appreciated about ID of this one - found today. It appears to be copper and about the size of a silver dollar. Says "Patented October 1858" and has image of hand holding writing instrument in the middle and appears to be JH in script below (John Hancock?). Perhaps top of ink well is the guess of one friend (named Earthworks on here). Also found an old button pictured and "Lambert" Listerine toothpaste about 1920 and found an ad for exact tube also pictured here.

Some history:
George Wells set up a pen making business in 1836, taking on John Hinks as partner around 15 years later. In 1920 the company merged with William Mitchell to form British Pens Ltd.
