1859 Indian head penny found in bank roll

1859 indian head cent found coin roll hunting

I have only opened about a box and a half total (returning all the junk everyday pennys) and found lots of great finds including two IH cents A 1891 in VG condition and A 1859 in VF condition.
I already had the 1891 but I will still very excited getting it. After getting two weeks of everyday pennys I got a date I do not have, 1859. It was in VF condition It was second to the end of the roll in a red and white machine crimped roll. Here are some pictures.

Great find! Most Indian cents found are culls or very worn. That coin obviously came from a collection. Excellent first year type coin! Congrats.

1859 Indian cent mintages are 36,400,000. It, and the white cents of 1860-1864 are copper-nickel with a composition of 88% copper and 12% nickel. It's the only year that was minted without the shield on the reverse. It is also heavier then the later bronze Indian head cents with a weight of 4.67 grams. The bronze cents starting in 1864 weigh in at 3.11 grams and are 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. All according to my 2011 Redbook. Nice find!!!!
