Had a hour and a half before it got dark so I headed out close.
Dug the ring right off the bat and had my heart pumping....ahhhh junker.
Then the 1943 S war nickel, smile back on my face.
Then I hit a deep zinc penny signal, didn't make sense so I dug it and found the 1871 seated half dime!
Wow, those things are so small! I had never seen one in person before much less find one.
What a killer hunt, I don't get these types of finds too often.

Here's a crappy pic but you can get the idea of the size.
They are only about half as thick though and light as a feather.

Sweet half dime. :occasion14: I've never found one myself but my hunting buddy found one this year and they are indeed very small. Can't wait to find one myself.

Nice finds. I also have never found a half dime.

A war nickel and a half dime... Two coins from totally different time frames. Must be a lot of history in that area. Great finds!

That's the really strange part ATpro5. I found these on a baseball field of a school built in 1960. The only history I can find is an aerial photo from 1932 that shows a house about 300 yard away. I'm beginning to think they were brought in with fill dirt back in the day when the school was built. I don't know of a house near that age anywhere near the area I was in. I find my best finds in the places they just are not supposed to be!
