I have been going thru a dry spell lately... but I keep telling myself.. keep out there and it will come.

today it came! I visited three sites that a friend [mainerelic] and I worked this spring. On the third site, at around 3:30 this afternoon, I had a solid "84" signal. that's always a dig for me. at about 7 inches, out comes this coin. my first thought was "what is this ... a small quarter? maybe it has been clipped" then I see the seated liberty! and the date! 1875! and i said to myself "all right! I've been wanting one of these!" later I found a gold ring w/a monster stone.. does it get any better than this??? turns out to be a costume ... but I was psyched for awhile. when I got home, I was on the phone with a friend {not mainerelic}. I told him " I found a 1875 seated liberty in real good shape. Hang on I am going to rinse it off now"..... then I said.."something's wrong" "it says twenty cents not twenty five cents, I guess I have a twenty cent pc.. did they ever make those?" they sure did look .

Wow, excellent find- I hope you didn't rub it. It should be worth a couple hundred dollars easy. It'll probably make the banner if you can get a pic up

Re: 1875 seated Liberty coin

1875-cc twenties have increased in value big-time the past few years. An attractive VF piece without cleaning is a $500 to $800 coin. A dug coin will likely be discounted, but you found an expensive coin. Congrats.

One peculiarity about these concerns their grading. The word LIBERTY can be incomplete even on an XF coin! A VF will often have only 1 or 2 letters of LIBERTY showing. The letters of "LIBERTY" are struck in high relief, unlike other Seated coins, so the grading is totally different. The best way to grade is to go look in the Heritage auction archives and compare your coin to certified coins graded by PCGS or NGC.

Outstanding and a truly scarce find!

1875-CC - 133,290 minted and quite likely many were melted before even leaving the Mint. The Twenty Cent piece was only minted for two years and many were destroyed due to the public's severe disdain for the coin.

Great find!

I find the program "Paint" easy to use when re-sizing photos. Follow these steps, there are several other ways to go also but you should have this program on your computer.

_____________________________________________________________________________

-Open the program "Paint".

-Then click "File" and then "Open". This will bring up the folders/files on your computer.

-Select the file you wish to work with.

-With the file/image open click on "Image". This will open a drop down menu.

-From the drop down menu, click "Stretch/Skew". This will open another box.

-In this box you will see "Stretch" with options for "Horizontal" and "Vertical". The %'s for these will be at 100.

-Change the value from 100 to your new percentage (either shrinking or enlarging) and click OK.

-Save the newly sized photo as a new file so as to retain your original.
