1876 Philadelphia Exhibition Medal

I found this today. I debated posting it because it's in such rough shape. Hard to tell in photos but you can actually make out much more detail with a magnifying glass and flashlight. Enough that I was able to do some research and identify it. I just thought it was pretty cool. For some reason someone drilled 3 holes in it at some point. I've also included photos of one in nice condition so you can see what it once looked like.

Cool find, probably made of zinc, thus the condition. Looks like they are commemorating the centennial as the roman numerals on the reverse are 1776. HH, Mike

Exactly, they were celebrating the centennial. But it was also the first World's Fair.

Yeah, I can't figure out why the 3 holes. I think to hang from a chain or ribbon you'd only need one. And I doubt someone would want to mount it to something as you wouldn't be able to see both sides. Who knows, it's a mystery.

I'm no ballistics expert but it's possible. But to me the holes seem too purposefully placed.

Some people enjoy holeing round objects for some reason, no idea why on this medal.
I have been cataloging a coin/token/medal collection for about a year now that my friend gave to me to do for him and in that collection are two of these medals. They are in good shape, silvery type white metal, and in fact the official designation of the medal says made of "white metal". they are 1876 Danish Medal Centennial Exhibition Baker 426B variety noted by GW surrounded by Wreath with Eagle Beneath. 52.6mm in diameter...........
Shame on the condition of yours but still a nice piece of history from the Centennial Exhibition......
