I found this dog tag as a young teen in 1978 in Millard, Nebraska while I lived there. I had just started metal detecting with a White's Coinmaster TR and was searching a friend's front yard, near the railroad tracks. Much to my surprise, this popped out. For years I thought this was some kind of RR tag. I just found out that it is a dog tag and the T.P. stands for Tax Paid. It has beautiful patina and is in outstanding condition. I have not been able to find any dog tags like it for Millard, NE, not to mention, so old! Comments would be appreciated.

Post it in the "Got Old Dog Tags" thread....
The post is monitored by Neil "Oddcoins"... He has a list of oldest known dog tags for just about every town in America...you might have a winner!

That tag is in amazing condition!
It could be the second oldest dog tax tag found from Nebraska. In Dr. William Bone's book (2009 edition) the oldest documented from Nebraska was a tag from the town of Minden "1885, the next oldest was an 1889 Omaha tag. There are no listings of tags from Millard, NE in either of his books of any date that I could find.
The "94" corresponds to the paper work that would have been filled out when the license was purchased; owners name, address, dogs age, male or female, etc..
That a very collectible tag! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461458688.588190.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461458708.635802.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1461458725.348013.jpg ...and yes, post this on oddcoins thread, he'll be interested, and make that your tag gets recorded.

That's a nice one. They don't get much earlier than that. Congrats!

The '94' is the number of dogs registered up to that time. Cities list dog tags by number, 1 to...... Then all that has to be done is look up the 'Dog Tax' (Tag) number and that shows the owner, address, etc. My oldest Dog Tax (what it said) was an 1896 tag from St Cloud, Minn.

Thanks for the great comments. I hope that this tag is one of the oldest from NE. That is awesome. We moved from Millard to Watkins, MN which is near St. Cloud, MN. My Mom is from St. Cloud. Small world.
