My friend Carol is 87 years young. She helps me find really old places to detect in the town she lives in. She has helped me into several yards that I would not have otherwise gotten into. Her mother lived to be 106 yrs. old and passed away in 2002. Her mother's home was sold prior to this time. This was the house Carol had lived in with her parents from 1920 until she got married in 1939. I was granted permission to detect in this yard. I found a small gold ring(didnt scan well enough to see anything), smashed silver plated ring(not pictured), a 1899 Barber Dime(I scratched getting it out from under this huge tree root), this little token(Reads"Good for 5 cents in trade" and pic. of moose on reverse), a Token from the Excelsior Shoe Company in Portsmouth, OH dated July 1910(Carol's Uncle worked there) and a neat little token dated 1901 that was from the Methodist Sunday School(It commemorates Bishop Asbury's starting of the first Sunday School in the new world). When I dug it, all I saw was gold shining.... I nearly fell over.... but it turns out it is brass plated. When I showed the token to Carol, she said that it was her mother's and that she had snuck it outside and lost it long long ago. Her mother thought it was actually gold and thusly remembered it. I have cleaned all the dirt off it I can, and am giving it back to Carol after all these years of being lost. The result?? Well now Carol wants to get a detector and go out with me hunting at 87 years old.... What a feeling to give something back after all that time!
