Hey guys! I'm a long time member and regular reader here but I don't post too often, unfortunately. Usually only when something exceptional pops out.

Being predominantly a coinshooter, this one's pretty exceptional :) 1909 S VDB that came out alongside a nice handful of oldies on a great hunt in an out-of-the-way patch of turf.

Here on the west coast we don't get a lot of the good stuff you guys get back east - colonial coppers, large cents, busts, and loads of reales. But at least we get a lot of S mints (and a few more gold coins for the lucky hunters out here).

My second 1909 S VDB ever; a little beat up, but beautiful to me. Thanks for looking!

Jayson

The one we all look for but few us will ever see.:notworthy:
Congrats! I want to know if you clean the green and how it does.

Great finds all around. Especially the vdb. Your second? Wow, my vote is in.

Wow, fantastic! And aside from some edge nicks and discoloring, in pretty darn good shape. Those wheat thingies on the back and the date still have great detail! And just personally I think the green and orange coloring is very, very nice looking so wouldn't want to try to get it more pristine, just-from-the-mint-looking. But just my opinion/preference, would also look great if cleaned. A terrific day with all the other nice finds but that put it into the stratosphere!

And as a fellow left-coaster I can commiserate and am jealous of the east-coasters finding the 1700s and 1800s busts and cobs and Civil War plates and such. But love to see their awesome finds of course. Just a tad green heh :happysmiley: And feeling a bit green towards you too! :tongue3:

Banner vote!

Beat up......?? Really?? Looks like super model to me!!! A real stunner!! :notworthy:
The mint mark stands out beautifully........I second Deepseeker ADS' suggestion.........restoration!!
Banner............

I'd be very careful about restoration, especially in your own efforts and in sending it off for restoration. Seems a couple years ago on here, a member sent off an 1877 IH (if I remember right) to "professionals", and his coin was ruined. Coppers are a more difficult coin to work with.

Banner! That didn't take long...again, congrats!:occasion14:

You had an amazing hunt Jayson, just look at all of that silver! :o
I love the brass skeleton key and this beautiful Bull Durham Tobacco token!

Congrats on getting your first BANNER too! :wav:

considering the extremely low mintage numbers for this coin, it is an amazing find. you can tell it was in really nice condition when dropped. incredible find, congrats!

Awesome hunt and a dream coin!! You are so right, we have plenty of oldies here on the east coast, but you guys score a lot more "S" mints out there- every oldie could be a rare one, like the one you just scored. The fact that it's your 2nd S-VDB is amazing- Congrats!!
