1909 VDB

Finally found one. Don't really know how rare they are, or what it's worth. I've found 1 or 2 1909's before but they weren't the VDB variety. This one has some wear but not as much as I usually see on cents of this era. I've found two Indian head cents before also. Don't really keep track of how many boxes I've been through but probably between 50 and 100.

That's cool. What condition is your coin in? I would guess mine would grade in the fine range although I'm no coin grader. I keep all my finds but I'm just curious if anyone has an idea what my coin might be worth.

In my opinion, eBay is the best "price guide" out there. Regardless of what any book says, any item is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it. eBay allows buyers from all over the world to "set" the price. Find similar condition VDBs on eBay and see what they sell for and you'll have your answer.

That is a nice find! I really want to find one this year! In F-12 according to the Red Book it is worth $15, so not too bad for a cent.

Nice coin! I would grade it a solid VF+ cent. You would prob get about $10-15ish on eBay for it. Great find! I have found a couple '09s in circulation, but not a VDB.

I looked thru about 10k wheats once at a pawn shop that were unsearched - found 8 vdbs, 3 22d's, and a bunch of other early d & s mint coins. I bought them for 5c each. Got about $200 worth of Lincolns for like $3.

Depends where your location; I found 5 vdbs this year.

Cleaning doesn't bother me. It's not an expensive coin, so who cares? Congrats on the cool find.

Well conley I see what you mean. The obverse is pretty shiny compared to the reverse. I don't see any obvious scratches like it was rubbed but who knows. Funny thing is I took some other old cents for comparison and it turns out another 1909 I had is also VDB and I missed it. Lol. That coin has got some scratches on it though.

I've heard of Cotten balls, but not even sure if you can do that without "damaging" it.

No. I only clean low value stuff for my coin books. I do a mix of salt and vinegar, but that's really abrasive and can destroy copper pennies if you aren't careful.

Yes. I've cleaned coins and have increased their sale value.

Just came up with my first 1909 VDB from a Loomis bank roll! It is a F-VF and per the red book is about $15!
