Never found one with a date. Awesome

I've dug a several of those too and the dates seem to be the first to be rubbed off. Nice find deb55. Yours looks like it is in good shape. What about the snake? You keep him too? lol

I found 26 coins in one hole a few weeks back, there were about 10 nickels like this on in there. Too messed up to really get dates but still working on them. So hard to find just one coin in a hole after that. It's like I'm expecting to hit the mother load every time.

hi deb55 I have read that ketchup works well on nickels. Am trying it out on a really red 1956 nickel to see what happens. That Buffalo is in nice shape, probably dropped before 1920 is my guess. The ones that are circulated much will always be missing the date! I am still trying to find that large spill or small coin cache, never has happened for me yet and I've been detecting for 30+ years Ha-ha 8-)

Ketchup does work well, but you need to change it out as soon as it starts to turn brown. Someone mentioned Worstcheshire sauce as being better than ketchup, but I have never tried it. Ketchup works find, but takes a few days to make a nickel shiny again and if it's crusty you may end up with pitting.

Deb, congrats on the nickle!

Yeah, the other nickels have been in ketchup a lot, I put them back in for a while today, they turned out nice so far, but,who knows how long they were in the dirt. Here is a photos of the ones I found in one hole. They feel strange after the ketchup, but I can see dates better. Hate to think what ketchup does to our bodies.

Does anyone ever get a strange feeling on items pulled out of the dirt? Like they have spirits attached? Or,maybe I have been watching the paranormal shows too much.

Congratulations on your 26 coin find! Your comment about being disappointed now with only one coin per dig is funny! ...Made me think about the guy in the news last month in England who bought an ace 150, and 20 minutes into his first hunt ever, he found a Roman era treasure trove of coins worth about 200,000. Imagine him from now on..."Gee, I've been out here for half an hour and no Roman treasure trove, this sucks. I'm going home".
