I Thought the same till I realized in 1925 , Making love meant Flirting.
I've seen Many Early 30's Movies, where they Referred to Teens Hanging out "Making Love"
Like it was the Thing all kids do.actual "Making Love" was illegal for Kids back then.
They got sent to Doctors to be Checked & Put away if They were sexually active "Delinquent" .

I'm 99% Sure intimate Meant Knew her Well & Spent time hanging out.

btw "Running around Naked" most likely meant the Girls were Swimming in their Bloomers and
industrial size bras and not covering their wet hair.
and the guys didn;t have a shirt on to go swimming
