Hi, I was sorting through some of my buffalo nickels this morning and saw this one. The front leg is very weak. Would this be the 3 1/2 leg variety? Here's a couple pictures of it compared to a normal 1936 D and then by itself.
As far as I can tell from the pics, you have a winner! A closeup of the partially missing leg would help. Since it would be somewhat impossible to determine it is an authentic 3 1/2 leg Buffalo (i.e. not ground off) from pics, you will have to send it in to PCGS, NGC, ICG or ANACS. Oh and congrats and welcome to the forums!
My phone has a hard time taking close up pictures without it being very blurry. I was going to take it to my coin dealer this morning and this possibly send it to ANACS next week. I tried posting this on cointalk, but didn't get a response so I came here since I like browsing the CRH section.
Awesome! Looks legit to me. Congrats on a very rare coin (much more scarce than the '37d 3-legged). In F-12, that's a $1000-1500 coin! Have a pic of the obverse?
I don't have a picture of the obverse. It's the same wear as the reverse. Had it sent off to PCGS and should know something in 3 weeks. I'll update this then.
Ya baby! Congrats on an amazing score. I'm a huge Buffalo nick fan & that is a really rare, tough coin. To put it in perspective, PCGS has only graded about 200 '36d 3 1/2 leggers in ALL GRADES, & only ONE in MS. One! (An ms62 coin). Compare that to the '37d 3 legger (7000+), '16D Merc (6000+), 1909S vdb cent (10000+), and 1893S Morgan dollar (5000+) and you start to see just how rare it really is! One of the best finds ever on this forum if you ask me. Again, congrats!!
Congrats! That was a great find looking through your' Buffalo Nickels! That is easily a $1,000 coin on most days but could bring more or less, depending on the day and the mood of any Buyers or Bidders if you go the eBay route.
