Hi all. Before you all come down on me with the snide remarks lol. Let me just say, I know I'm probably asking a stupid question. I know it's probably worthless. I know even if it is something that it is in poor condition. I know nothing about coins. With that being said....

Is this quarter special in any way? I ask because of its age obviously but also it makes a very different sound than today's or any other coins Ive ever had contact with. Much more tingy I guess.. yes I said tingy lol. And it appears to have a 2 on the eagles right leg and an S under the left foot and maybe something else next to it.
The mint Mark is S in the back
Anyway any help that isn't smart a.. or insulting would be great

THANK YOU

That's a good, legitimate question. In 1945, the San Francisco, California mint (the reason there's an "S" mintmark on your coin), minted 17,004,001 quarters using 90% Silver and 10% Copper. If your coin was in much better condition, it would be worth anywhere from $7.50 to $35.

In 1965, the government switched from Silver/Copper to Clad which is a Copper/Nickel layer over a Copper core to mint the dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins.

Your quarter originally contained .18084 ounces of pure Silver and at the current value of Silver ($17.68 / ounce), your quarter is worth around $3.

Thank you very much. I was just about to add that a it weighs 6 grams where a today's quarter weighs 5.7g.
But no need now I suppose. Thank you

SD51 Thanks again for taking the time to answer me. Do you think this could be a double struck error coin with what appears to be an S under the left foot? Like maybe from when they mint marked it?

Bbop, I don't think it was a double strike and the "S" wouldn't have been there otherwise there would have been a bunch of other obvious issues with the coin.

Silver coins make a distinct DIFFERENT SOUND than current day clad coins.

If you compare your quarter to one in mint condition, you will see that the "S" on your eagle's "foot" is the remains of the claw, and one of the grooves on the bundle of arrows he's clutching. 1945 s quarter old and new.png

You are correct. "a very different sound than today's or any other coins Ive ever had contact with. Much more tingy I guess.. yes I said tingy l"

The silver quarters give off a higher pitch than the clad quarters of today, and I have used that very word to describe it. Like there is a "ting" when you drop it.

Silver. Worth about 13 times face value. 13 X $.25 = $3.25. Stack it, find a few more, and keep stacking. :-) Good job.
