Hi, I was going through some halves and noticed a raised defect on this 1971-D Kennedy Half Dollar. In front of and parallel to the nose. It appears to be a good size die gouge because I can not see it continuing through the coin. Does any one know about this one in particular? Is it worth anything? I go through quite a few halves and this is the first I have seen. Also, as you can see, the die looks to have been in very bad shape at this point.

Thanks for your help and taking a look!

Looks like a clashed die to me (that is where the dies come together without a blank. They mark each other). Note the terrible detail between the nose and the face. It seems as is there was some serious polishing on that die.

Thanks for the input dejapooh. Makes scence to me. Yes the die was in very bad shape for sure. You can see it all over the coin. Could it be worth anything? I'm new to this....

As anything, it is only worth what someone will pay. It is a pretty minor error of a type that generally has little value. Considering the condition of the coin, I would guess a couple of bucks, but I don't really know.
