i found something today a 1975d lmc that sounded different from the rest after dropping it in the junk bucket,it only weighs 2.51 grams after examining the coin i thought it might have been exposed to soda or something due to wear, one problem,i'm pretty sure it still has its lustre,no film or gunk on the coin doesn't seem to be cleaned so i wiped a corner and sure enough it took off some lustre IMG_20131112_173530.jpg IMG_20131112_173852.jpg IMG_20131112_173552.jpg IMG_20131112_174437.jpg IMG_20131112_173447.jpg .I can read the devices clear front back motto date and everything,it seems a hair off in diameter, thickness is pretty much the same so i grabbed four other 1975's and took some pictures, take a look i appreciate your feedback EVL1

That's strange. I recently found a 1940 nickel that fit the same description. It is much lighter, smaller, and has a different sound when dropped. However, it is very porous, leading me to believe it was a cast counterfeit. Now this appears. I think these coins may have been a victim of a chemistry experiment, where an acid ate away at the outer layers of the coin, thus shrinking it. If your coin is porous, that is what I believe. If is not and still has 100% of the mint originality, I'm stumped. If that is the case, then I would believe that there was an error in the planchet-making process. Compare the size of your coin to a dime to confirm my suspicions. However, I could still be wrong.
