1976 Kennedy half

I dug up a 76' half, wondering if it has silver content, should I toss it in with my silver collection or spend it as clad?

Check it for an "s" mint mark.Some of them were struck as silver clad or 40% silver.Most "s" mints from that year were silver clad although the actual figures are not known because many of them were melted by the Mint in 1982.The reeded edge should look like a 65-70 half.I'll post a pic of the edge and the mint mark location under the neckline.Or you can use the sound drop test.Silver has that peculiar twang to it when it hits the floor!

I keep all '76 halves and quarters! Gettign a lot of '76 quarters this year.

Over 500 million business strikes of the 1976 half in circulation. Thats the most minted for any year of JFKs. IMHO the S mint for that year are the only ones I would keep. Let me correct that. I would probably keep any MS-63 + coins.

The 40% silver Bicentennial Halves were made in BU and Proof only. They have the S mint mark. They weren't made for circulation. They were sold by the Mint in special three piece sets, containing the bicentennial quarter, half and Ike dollar, all in 40% silver. They made the copper-nickle clad version for circulation. That's probably what you found. It's worth 50 cents. It's highly unlikely that you found a 40% silver Bicentennial Kennedy. Of course, it is possible that some kid took it out of his dad's collection and lost it. Here's a picture of the 40% silver 1976-S Kennedy:
