1989 Lincoln Cent Doubled Die?

Found this in a box of pennies yesterday. Looks like two extra columns in bays #9 and #10. What do you think?

I would think they would be equally spaced if it was doubling. Check the first one from center by pressing it with a toothpick. If it gives then its probably an air bubble.

I've seen such areas on enough cents to know it doesn't add value to the coin, but have no earthly idea what it is or why it's there. I've found dozens that were similar - and that may even be conservative!

Could be, but I'm leaning toward die scratches. Only way to know for sure is send it to someone like Wexler to have it evaluated.
