I found this in June of this year at an old homesite. Strangely there were only about 5 or 6 coins to be found on the entire property. Two wheats, 1909 (no s or VDB no matter how many times I check) and a 1939. Two canadian cents (1945 and 1946) found together, one newer penny, and this 1864 two center. Where the heck are all the other old coins? I have no idea and I've certainly gone back to check several times to make sure. I cant seem to find anything else there. This is my first and only two center. The condition is really quite good except for a little rim damage at about the 2 to 3 o'clock position on the obverse and some more at the 7 o'clock position on the reverse.

Here's another pic of the coin before I got it cleaned up. I had this thing soaking in olive oil for about a month overall. I didn't think I would ever find one of these either. Keep hunting Ivy and you'll find one.

GREAT FIND! I too found one just like it. Strange thing, mine also has a nick in it. Found it in my brothers veggie garden. Looks to have been nicked with his tiller.

Congrats on a great looking 2 cent piece. 8) I feel for you but hang in there. Had one site that produced over a dozen wheaties including a 1909 like yours plus the teens and 20's, but not one silver coin. Still looking though--coins don't take up much space in the ground. ;)

Very nice! Keep looking, change direction, etc. Is the ground dry? Try again after a nice rain. If there is a two center, there should be more. Good luck.

That's one hell of a strong Motto! I've got an 1864, and the 'WE' isn't visible at all.

Stupendous 2-center!

You give me hope for olive oil improvement in my recent 1-centers. That's a big "signal swing" between your Before and After pictures.

Excellent two center, Evolution!

Can't see any wear on the high spots there.

Check that area again though, there's got to be more.

Thanks for sharing.

Sweet coin! Sometimes there are not many coins around a place simply because a lot of people back then just didn't have money. A lot of business was done on the barter system. Any money was greatly protected I guess you could say. Fantastic coin you found! I'd rather find one in that shape, then a hand full of really worn ones. Way to go!
