Thanks should I clean it off more and how I don't want to ruin it there seems to be the head and neck of an eagle on there if you look closely but maybe it's just my mind and eyes playing tricks on me

Have you ever used Andre's Relic Restoration Pencils? I think that is what I would try on that particular button.

I've been studying up on marbles for the past month and I'll be the first to say that trying to date them or Id them will eventually cause a migraine. I think they're around 1920, possibly earlier due to the fact they're not to vibrant in color. I'd wash them and look for pontil marks to get a better idea of the age.

I would be very interested in seeing that buttoned cleaned up. I can kind of see the shape of an eagle. If thats what it is you could have a really good find.

The button throws me a definite curveball. Normally, I’d say 1830 or newer. The holes make me think an old gut-strung button. That makes me wonder if someone had a honey-do list and soldered an eye onto an older button. I’m probably wrong, but some folks did get creative out of necessity. It’s a very interesting piece.
Please do repost photos if you clean it.
