2 months of finds (plus I'm over 20 V's for the year (22)) MEGA POST

Hi all,
I have been very busy. Haven't gotten out as much and then, finding things like Indian Heads that take time to clean haven't helped the cause of posting. But, I have caught up on my cleaning (everything but some wheats) so here is the long post of many finds.

First, Shiny to V or Shiny to IH ratio has been low for me, but here is my shiny from Oct and Nov (on 3 separate hunts). The whitened BBQ comes from my in-laws in Indy and is my 4th BBQ on the year. I switched to a 15x12 SEF coil in early Oct, and hence the scratch on the merc (was not used to pinpointing small items).

Second, I am sure what all you have been salivating for is my collection of V nicks, 6 more to bring me to a grand total of 22 for 2010 (maybe I'll get up to 25?)

Vs A.jpg
dates are: (Top L-R) 1901, 1891, 1902 (Bottom) no-date (#20 on year), 1906, 1906

Next, for your view pleasure, are my several Indian heads:

dates (top l-r) 1891, '96, '97, 1906 (bottom) 1882, 1900, '04, '07

I'd be remiss not to include in this feast, a picture of miscellaneous items, including a religious medallion to 'our lady of the snows, Belleville, ILL' (a timely find for sure), my first Goetz token ever which I found in the end of Sept with Clad, and a 1926 Buff.

Misc A.jpg Misc B.jpg

I'll deprive you not of grain in this meal, so not pictured I got the following wheat: '10, '11, '11, 17, 18d, 18s, 19, 20-s, 22 ?, 27, 34, 35, 39, 39, 39, 41, 41, 42, 45, 46-d, 50, 57-d.

1922?.jpg
This 1922 may be a no D or weak D, but it is so toasted who can say.

Finally, for dessert, and it is wafer thin, I found in the area an 1862 Italian 2 centisimi piece (I think D-dub found a silvery 10c one earlier this year).

Better get a bucket

Sweet coinage!!

Glad to hear you've had a chance to get out and boost that V count of yours
(I'm hoping there's a few hunts left this season before the snow hits :P)

No drugs, but 1 side of my chest will look like Popeye's and the other will look like Erkle's. I am not skilled enough with my left side to trade off, but I have no problem with 5 hour hunts with the 15x12.

Wow!! Great finds! The IH's all look to be in beautiful condition. To bad V's never seem to do as well. Nice BBQ and merc also.

Nice coins! I think my part of northeast Arkansas must be too new for IH's. The oldest penny(and oldest coin)I found was a 1909 wheat. I reckon that's getting pretty close to an IH isn't it? A lot of western Mississippi County, AR. wasn't even settled until late 1800's.

Yeah that 1909 wheat is nice. They also made IHs in 1909. It was the last year for IHs and you can find 1909s of both IH and wheat. You have a key date there.

Unfortunately it doesn't have the vdb(that I can see anyway) and is a P mint. But thanks Loot for the information. I wasn't aware that 1909 was the first Lincoln cent and the last of the IH's. HH, Yard Digger

Keep in mind also, that Indians probably were in circulation until the 1940's; I found a bunch coin roll hunting when I was a kid back in the mid-1980's even, so it is possible that they could be dropped, just less likely than say if you had a primo location settled in the 1850's with lots of people traffic. Wheats are still in circulation today, 52 years after the fact.
Also keep in mind, depending on what detector you have, an Indian head will register much lower than a Lincoln cent, and can easily be passed up as trash if you aren't aware of how they register.
