2 Nice Buckles & Buttons!

I had a pretty good weekend! First on Saturday I went with Rob & Dickie back to an old saw mill site we hunted last year. It has some old home sites on it. I found 2 nice buckles there and Rob found one also. I also found a little brass lock, an 1882 I.H. penny & a copper pin that looks like the flatten pennies you get some places you go. But it did have a pin on the back.

The back of the square buckle says "Colonial" on it.

Then on Sunday I went with another buddy back to the old home site where I found the nice war of 1812 button last week.
There I found another interesting button with a Badge & ancor on the front. And it is marked "U States Revenue Service" on the back.
I also found a 2nd artillary button from the war of 1812! Plus more flat buttons, a big brass tag with the #13 on both sides and I think says "Franklin Seruy Co" on it, a smashed up ring and a mystery item.

If anyone can tell me anything about the Badge button, please let me know!
Thanks again to my Buddy Rob for his help with these pictures & this post.

Floyd, your post title really tells the story. Those are some great buttons. Lucky #13 looks like a cow tag to me. Good luck Bud-you are tearing it up there., Quindy.

Re: 2 Nice Buckles & Buttons!

Your flat button is a Revenue Cutter Service one. The RCS was the fore runner of the Coast Guard and it actually came before the U.S. Navy. It's too far gone to determine exactly which one it is but, there were only two different flat ones made.

Re: 2 Nice Buckles & Buttons!

And just FYI...the Revenue Cutter Button is worth about 10X what the Artillery button...not that you're going to sell, but just to place them in their proper context.
