I found an old homestead on a plat map from 1880, the house itself is gone.
The hunt was on!
It took about an hour to find the house but I don’t think it has been hunted.
There are a lot of targets in the ground but also some heavy frost in places.
I did find a 1 Gold ring, 1 Copper ring, 1 Indian Penny 1889, a Watch Fob or it might be a dog tag from 1917 marked Greenwood Township and a Gold Plated Brooch.
The Gold ring I found by the, (you guessed it) the largest tree on the place, a White Pine.
The acid from that tree Destroyed that ring. Another curiosity is both of the rings showed up on the screen of my Explorer as Gold Rings?
Looks like it will be a good place to hunt when the snow and frost are gone.

Wow man ~ you're finding some good stuff!

ANOTHER Greenwood Township dog tag?! You are killing it man! SO COOL!! And #7 serial number is pretty low. The other ones you posted recently were dated 1901 with serial #11, and 1916 with serial #36.

That sure doesn't look like gold, bud.

Doesn't pine sap preserve stuff and not destroy them? Every old coin I find underneath pine trees actually looks better than the ones I find anywhere else.

I think you just found an old brass or copper ring there that was once plated with something.

I do not think it is the sap, Decomposing Pine needles seem to be hard on any thing buried under them.
Thanks Gunrunner61

How did you ID the ring as gold? Gold can lay in the salty ocean for 100's of years in come out like the day it was lost. I dodn't think any substance corrodes gold.

Nice finds :headbang:, i love the indian. Still wanting to find one :BangHead:.
Thought i had my first today, but turned out to be a 1916 wheatie. 2nd 1916 i have found on the same lot.
I have found lots of 40's wheats, tons of clad, and one 43s jefferson at this lot.
Cant find the silver at this location, except for the 40%er. Which are nice, but almost feel guilty counting them as a silver.
Guess i gota keep pounding it.
life is a garden, dig it.

Jewelry store in Fremont 12k
Gold at the bottom of the ocean, and gold buried in the dirt on dry land, the 2 do not compare.
Ask one of the people on this site that do the gold Recycling. Is that just a process of dissolving the Gold?
Yes. Mercury ring a bell?
I can not tell for a fact what happened to the Ring!! I can tell you where I found It.
I can not tell you what condition the ring was in when it was Lost.
