Hi guys, Wanted to make another post. I will be updating these at the end of the year. Since I haven't been hunting I have been looking through what I have found this year so far.

There are 33 indians total. My favorite one is in the 3rd picture in the middle. It is completely stretched out and is perfect. Like when you put them on the train tracks. It has a hole drilled through the top of it. I really like it alot. I like indians alot because they are the majority of the old coins I find.

I almost found 100 last year but I'll never hit that mark this year. Just to find your first 100 total is very hard to do. It takes alot of good spots all the time to do it.

Thanks for looking everyone. I will update this later in the year with the rest I find.

HH Jer

Re: 2005 33 Indians so far

Thanks all. Hang in there mud your day is coming. I am a master at finding indians on the dfx. You have to know how they read. They all tend to read differently due to the composition changes over the years. My dfx loves to hit them at plus 46. They hit alot lower due to they are tilted or corroded or just deep. The fatty indians 1860 through 64 read low 30 vdi's on the dfx. So do flying eagle pennies. High twenties low thirties. The closer they are to the surface the better they read at there correct vdi. 59 would be a ideal number for them to come in but they like to read mid 40's and low 50's due to the different years they are made.

There are alot of indians in my city. Atleast one in every yard out there that is 100 yrs old and older. The philadelphia mint isn't really far away from here so odds of finding them are good.

Thanks for looking Jeremy

I love indian heads. You have a great collection already. My son has found one. I haven't yet.

Yeah, I am starting to concentrate more on places that are at least 100yrs old. It takes time, energy and knowing some people.

If you post later - do a more detailed scan of your best IH. Thanks.

Re: 2005 33 Indians so far

Thanks guys, I will post a picture in december of the rest of them. I have been keeping them seperate. My best indians are 67,69 2 78's 2 73's a nice group of fatties. I'll try and get you a nice rare date picture when I get a chance. They are my favorite coins to find. I may end up with 40 or so by then. That's a pretty good indian year. Glad there are people out there who still honstly like looking at my finds.

Thanks again

Jeremy

Hey, Jer, explain to us what a "fatty" is.? I looked in my coin book and don't have a clue.

We were in Pittsburgh Wednesday and Thursday for the Pearl Jam/Rolling Stones concert.? When we were sightseeing, guess what I was thinking about....Metal detecting all those great old places.? Lots of old stonework and old buildings.? You have a endless supply of sites to detect.

"fatty" is a slang term for the thicker differently composed early indian head pennies :) You can identify them by their thickness even if they dont have a date, also they are the color of a flying eagle...

Re: 2005 33 Indians so far

Cool, Did you have a good time Haupin. I wanted to go to. The wife could have got tickets from work but getting a baby sitter on a few hrs notice is impossible here. I bet it was crazy there. Did you like the park. There is alot of old spots around here. I guess you saw that already. I only live 15 minutes away from the park.

The fatty indians were made during the civil war years. 1860 through 1864. But in 1864 they also made them regular size like the rest. I guess they needed to conserve copper at the time of the war. They have more nickle in them than copper. They are about as thick as a nickle. They are somewhat tough to find. They read high 20's low 30's on the dfx. So it makes it tough to find them because most treasure hunters tend not to dig those v.d.i numbers. So will flying eagle cents. They read the same.

Best bet is if you find a old spot dig every target. Also during that time merchants made alot of civil war tokens to compensate the lack of indian head cents in circulation. In 1864 the government made it illegal to issue these tokens anymore.

Hope this helps you understand them better. You'll find one and you'll love them.

This is the last indian I dug this year. I found it at a old spot of mine that always seems to give up something. It was found a few weeks ago with the white's 1400 coil.
