Re: 2006's oldest finds so far

I originally wasn't going to include dollars, figuring 25 people would be credited with a 1971 Ike. But with Morgans amazingly turning up we might as well include 'em.

The last two days of nickels, $70 worth -

1941
1946 (2)
1947
1951
1954D
1954S
1956D (2)
1957D (2)
1959D (3)

...and two wheats from pocket change - 1950S & 1954S

Re: 2006's oldest finds so far

A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine decided he wanted to try coin roll hunting with me. His very first find was a 1905 indian head penny in really nice condition. Exact quote: "Huh...I have...something... 1905...what is it?" My exact quote: "I hate you. I hate you so very much." Of course I don't actually hate him, but yeah, can you believe that?

I haven't posted any of my finds lately because nobody seems to care if it isn't silver. So I'm saving up a few weeks worth until I get enough to bother posting. I'll also post his finds. So, although it knocks me out of the (shared) top spot on pennies...1905 indian head penny. That is, unless you want him to actually post it first.

A new find eliminates the three-way Lincoln log jam for oldest cent.

Well, Barber dimes are the only thing that'll top Hothgar's latest find.

Unless someone gets lucky with quarters it looks like these finds may stand for awhile.

Re: 2006's oldest finds so far

When I last updated this silver was at about $10.50/oz. The last time I checked it was $13.39!! What a difference a month makes!

I might make me check out quarters more since they have more silver than clad halves. Expect the competition in roll hunting to get even fiercer!

Immy...do my 100 Morgans count. I have several 1878 Morgans in that lot. I can give the breakdown of what I got if anyone is interested.

Most certainly Bill! Would love to know the breakdown of dates and mintmarks. You'll probably ride out the rest of the year with the dollar crown, unless someone comes across a trade dollar.

Re: 2006's oldest finds so far

Here is the breakdown on the 100 Morgans that I got at the bank.

I thought that there was an 1878 but it looks like 1879 is the earliest.

1879 Philly (3) 1879 O (1)
1880 Philly (3) 1880 S (5) 1880 O (1)
1881 Philly (1) 1881 S (10) 1881 O (5)
1882 Philly (2) 1882 S (1) 1882 O (1)
1883 Philly (3) 1883 O (2)
1884 Philly (5) 1884 O (4)
1885 Philly (3) 1885 O (2)
1886 Philly (4)
1887 Philly (3)
1889 Philly (4)
1890 Philly (2) 1890 S (4)
1891 Philly (1) 1891 O (2)
1896 Philly (5)
1897 Philly (2)
1900 Philly (6)
1921 Philly (13) 1921 O (2) tiny mint mark

The bad news...no Carson Citys or scarce dates. The good news is that these look like they have been stored for a long time and most are in great condition. Many have strong mirror fields and very little wear.

Drink-7-up's latest find launches us into the 19th century for pennies! Nice going!!!

An awesome bunch of Morgans, Bill. What did your friend find in their $100?

She got about the same mixture. She wanted the few peace dollars that I got so I traded them for some of her 1921 Morgans. We both got alot of mainly common date coins...but they are in beautiful condition. Now it's back to the half dollar trail...I haven't gotten any halves in a few days and I'm feeling the need.
