Hey. I thought I'd give you my 2007 report as I've enjoyed everyone else's that I've read. During the year I searched $133,976.75 worth of coins, or 1,464,018 coins. I started coin roll hunting in May.

Pennies:

I searched 548,155 pennies and found five Indian Heads, 3644 Wheats (4 Steelies), and 5,265 Canadians. I also found two Indian Heads under a coin star machine and found one in someone's rejects. A teller gave me an additional Steelie for face and I found one in a coin star machine. The oldest US penny I found was 1864 (1879 if counting only roll finds) and the oldest Canadian I found was 1920 (found a total of 4 George V pennies). The rarest Lincoln by mintage I found was a 1932. Lately, I've been struggling to find more D and S coins from 1909-1939. They seem to be extremely rare in the northeast US.

Nickels:

I searched 242,310 nickels and found 2 Liberties, 39 Buffaloes, 103 War Times, 3 Proofs, and 680 Canadians. I also found one additional War Time on the floor of Costco. The oldest US nickel I found was 1904 and the oldest Canadian I found was 1940 (found a total of two George VI nickels). I found all Jeffersons except 1938D and 1943D ... strangely I found three 1950D's ... go figure. About 40% of the Buffaloes I've found can be dated, a very large portion are 1936's. Most of my War Times were either 1943P or 1944P, I rarely come across a S or D, even those that were minted in large quantities.

Dimes:

I searched 454,602 dimes and found fourteen Mercuries, 190 silver Rosies, and 438 Canadians. I also got about a dozen silver Rosies from tellers and the coin star machine, a Mercury from White's Electronics, and a 80% silver Canadian from a teller. Of the 438 Canadians five were 80% silver and two were 50% silver. The oldest US dime I found was 191? (the last digit is worn off) and the oldest Canadian I found was 1943. I found all Rosies during 2007 except 1946S, 1947S, 1949D, 1949S, 1951S, and 1955D. About one quarter of the silver dimes I find are 1964's. I don't see many S dimes. I've yet to come across a silver dime hoard. My best was finding six silver dimes in one box.

Quarters:

I searched 156,320 and found twenty-five silver Washingtons and 196 Canadians. I also got one silver Washington from a teller, two silver Washingtons from the coin star machine, and one 80% silver Canadian from a teller. Of the 196 Canadians one was 80% silver. My oldest US quarter was 1937 and my oldest Canadian was 1946. About half of the silver Washingtons I found were 1964's. One hoard provided about half of my silver quarter finds for the whole year, these babies are really tough to come across.

Halves:

I searched 61,589 and found 91 90%'ers (21 Walkers, 9 Franklins and 61 Kennedy's), 325 40%'ers, and 8 proofs. I also got two 90%'ers and two 40%'ers from tellers (ones they saved for me). I found all Kennedy's except 1970D and 1987P, including all post 2001 halves. My oldest half was 1934. Only in the last two months of the year did I do any serious half searching. I've had good luck bank hunting, but boxes have been poor. I've had a hard time finding Walkers and Franklins (most of mine came from one bank stop).

Dollars:

I searched 413 large dollars and 629 small dollars. I found one proof Sac. I found a complete set a Ikes (minus the mint set halves, 1973's). I haven't found any silver dollars, yet. I think I might make finding a 40% Ike or better yet a Peace or Morgan dollar a goal of mine for 2008. I'll probably look for the mint set Susan B's and Sac's this year.

Best of luck to everyone in 2008!

-Brian

Great results Kestrelia! You've given GMan some serious competition. Especially illuminating are your quarter stats, which not a lot of people search. According to your figures one 90% shows up about every $1,500 or so. No wonder they're not searched very much. Best of luck on your searches in 2008!

Yup, quarter searching is only for the crazy. :) I used to search boxes of quarters, but they produce too much trash and take to much time for the reward, so now I only search customer rolled quarters. With those it is pretty easy to slip them out in the hand, check the rims, and throw them back in. It's still insane though.
