Now that 2007 is officially wrapped up, I got thinking about what I wanted for my goals for 2008...

Most are similar to my 2007 goals.

1) Search through the following volumes:
at least 1,040,000 pennies ($200/week average)
at least 520,000 nickels ($500/week average)
at least 520,000 dimes ($1000/week average)
at least 208,000 quarters ($1000/week average)
at least 104,000 half dollars ($1000/week average)

2) Find a complete set of Jefferson nickels (not including proofs) in 2008. (2 short in 2007)
3) Find a complete set of Roosevelt dimes (not including proofs) in 2008. (14 short in 2007)
4) Find at least 1200 silver coins in 2008 (100/month average)
5) Find at least 20 silver quarters in 2008
6) Find at least 300 silver dimes in 2008
7) Find at least 10 Mercury dimes in 2008
8) Find at least 10 Indian Head pennies in 2008
9) Find at least 4100 wheat pennies in 2008 (beats 2007's total by a couple)
10) Find a silver barber coin of any denomination
11) Find at least 2 V-Nickels
12) Find at least 40 buffalo nickels
13) Finish a set of Franklin half dollar from circulation
14) Find at least 150 war nickels

and last but not least, but more importantly:

15) Have fun with my hobby

I think your quarters are off by a factor of 2.

13 Will be pretty tough I'm sure you know there's a few of those hard to find dates. I found quite a few in 07 and got lucky finding the 1955 but I'm still missing a few of the early dates.

14) That one would be outright impossible for me. But if you can search $500/week you should be able to easily hit that goal. My area produces really close to one per $100. I rarely get a box that doesn't have one and seems like when I do then the next box has two.

I wish you luck on your goals. I have no idea how you can search the volume you do and keep those stats.

I totaled your goals up and if I'm right it will require a *DAILY* search of about 7400 coins. You should be able to beat "The Rock" at arm wreslting after lugging that many coins around everyday.

208,000 (quarters) divided by 52 (weeks) is 4000 quarters a week, or $1000, so he's right on. The half dollar goal equals $2000/week though.

As far as his war nickel goal, it's very possible for far less than $500 a week. My record for one year was 60 nickels and that was going thru about $80-$100 a week. Even if he doubles that total he'll come close.

I knew one of those counts were wrong. I was looking at it the wrong way.

I think you mis-read my nickle comment. I was trying to say there was no way I could find 150 war nickles/year. Even though I find about 1 per $100 I just can't go through that many nickles. I think I did good to find nearly one roll.

Ah you're right, my bad. I thought your line "But if you can search $500/week" was directed at GMan.

Oops, for half dollars I did mean $1000 per week or 104,000 over the year.

The goals for War Nickel is separate from the goal for total nickels sorted. Basically I want 150 war nickels even if I don't reach my volume goal ( which I think might be a stretch).

That's just over 6500 coins per day with the correction.

I think last year my average was around 5200 coins/day but I changed my acquisition strategy to focus on bags instad of boxes around the beginning of April which resulted in increasing my volume for the remainder of the year. Before the switch I was averaging just over 4000 coins/day and after the switch I was averaging just over 5600 coins/day.

GMan,
The number of coins you search is amazing. I only wish I had the time. You must have some very understanding dump banks. If I rolled into my dump banks with that kind of volume, I would probably be cut off. Good Luck on your goals. Keep us posted.

My typical dump is 2 canvas bags full and I spread out the dumps amongst a number of branches. Due to the fact I live near a large metro area (Twin Cities) and commute about halfway through it daily, I have 12 dump branches of one of my dump banks that are within about 1 mile of my typical daily route and another 5 that are within about 3-5 miles of my route. On top of that I have a few other banks that I occasionally dump at (around 10). So even though I go through a ton of coins and have to dump a lot I still only see any one branch on average of once a month or less. I also have a few branches that I rarely go to (1 to 4 times a year), at those branches I tend to bring more if I know in advance that I will be in that area just to spread out the dumps even further.

Hey GMan, not too sure if you posted this earlier, but did you reach any of your goals for 2007? Also, were there some goals you didn't reach?

I reached some of them, but not all.

My 2007 goals

1) Search more than 1 million coins...Successful (I almost hit 2 million)

2) Find more wheat pennies than in 2006...Successful
2006's total = 1654
2007's total = 4085

3) Find more Indian Head Pennies than in 2006...Failed
2006's total = 7
2007's total = 6

4) Find at least 2 rolls of war nickels...Successful
2007's total = 229
My one box war nickel hoard of 100 at once sealed the deal here.

5) Find at least 100 silver dimes...Successful
2007's total = 192 (169 Roosevelt, 9 Mercury, 14 Canadian)

6) Find at least 10 silver quarters...Successful
2007's total = 13

7) Average of at least 100 silver coins per month for the year (total 1200 or more)...Successful
2007's total = 1417

8) Find a complete set of Jefferson nickels 1938-Present (not including proofs) in 2007...Failed
2 left (1938-S, 1950-D)

9) Complete my first set of silver Roosevelt dimes through CRHing...Failed
7 left (1949, 1950-S, 1951-S, 1952-S, 1955, 1955-S, 1958) Note some were not found CRHing.
Found 34 of the 48 varieties in 2007

10) (Pseudo-goal) Have fun with the hunt...Successful

Technically successful with 6 out of 9 goals and close with 2 of the other 3. The Roosevelt dime series proved harder than I had hoped.

You didn't list any proofs in your goals.

I personally am still working on a "Poor Man's Half Dollar Proof Set" consisting of 1964 to present which I started on in early 2007. I'm only 8 proofs away from completion.
