Hello Everyone,

Started coin roll hunting this winter, as the cold and snow in PA keeps me away from metal detecting. I wanted to take the time to thank all the supporters and information provided by the beginner's guide. I spent some time researching local banks, looking for a good dump bank and also some good banks to order from.

I started off by asking for some CWR nickels from a local bank, only about $40 worth. I was lucky enough to find a rare find in my first rolls.

1910 "V" nickel

Also found my first silver war nickel. To be honest, I didn't even know there were silver nickels before starting metal detecting in the fall of last year.

I then ordered my first boxes from local bank.

Box #1- 1943P war nickel, dateless buffalo nickel

Box #2- 1945P was nickel, 1936 buffalo nickel

I then wanted to try my luck at half dollars as well. So I ordered 1 box of halves and 2 more boxes of nickels:

Box #3 halves- Skunk (almost all marked with a green marker)

Box #4 nickels- 1944P war nickel

Box #5 nickels- Skunk (almost all 2012 nickel rolls)

Decided to up my game and order 2 more boxes of halves and 3 boxes of nickels. I picked up 1 box of halves mid week.

Box #6 halves- Skunk

Really starting to wonder if I was wasting my time. I am very stubborn and wanted to find at least 1 silver half dollar for my coin collection. I get excited opening a new box and always check for enders. I have not found a single ender yet in any box of any type of coins.

Box #7 halves- 1964 (90%er), 2x 1967, 3x 1968 D, 1969D

I was so excited I almost wet myself. My first silver half and more. 4 of the rolls had enders, 1 being the 1964. So my first enders, also first 90%er and 6 more 40%.

Box #9 nickels - 1945P, 1944P war nickels

Box #10 nickels - 1943P war nickel

Also if your doing nickels check for 1939d and 1950d. Those are Mega rare. Also 2009p&d have the lowest mintage in the last 50 years.

I like how most of the silver was an ender...

That is generally how half dollar boxes usually run. Skunk, skunk, skunk, 4 keepers, skunk, skunk, 3 keepers, skunk, skunk, etc. Its not usually a consistent 1-2 keepers in most boxes as with dimes and nickels.

The only problem with your statement is that the 1939d and 1950d are rare. They are not rare numismatically at all, but are rare to find in circulation, because of their mintages.

1939D is rare numismatic if it is in Au50 or above. It was not horded like the 50D

Well my week updates are as follows:

My mid week box of halves was not ordered for some reason so I had to settle for only a few rolls.

$100 MWR half dollars: Skunk

Box #11 Half dollar: Skunk, did find a 1998 s clad proof (is this worth keeping?)

Box #12 Dimes: 1958 FDR, 1968 Canadian (only weighs 2.1g so I think it is clad type)

Box #13 Nickels: Skunk (I keep older clad, few 40s, 50s)

Box #14 Nickels: 1943P and 1945P (also first nickel ender (1945P), few foreign including a Swiss 20 piece, 39, 40s and 50s, several rolls of mostly uncirculated 1962, 1963, 1964)

Went through $200 in nickels.
Box 1: Found 1 1943d war nickle, 4x 1968s, 9x 1969s, and 7x 1970s. And a bunch of pre 64's ranging from 39-64. I'm new to nickels. Was this a good box.
Box 2: ALL WERE 2012d. SKUNK.

Also went turn them back in at local bank, and had a guy putting this same dime back through the coin machine. I asked him to see it. Offered 2 of those thousands of 2012d I had. Walked away with a1950d Rosie. SCORE

Keep the proof, even though it has no added value. It is NIFC after all. Use a magnet on the Canadian, if it sticks, it is nickel (not clad, clad is a sandwich of two metals, not a solid metal). The Swiss coin is a 20 rappen, worth about 20 cents.

Average is 1-2 wars a box, closer to two. Don't keep the 60-64, just pre-1960. The 1964 was the highest minted nickel to date.
